Katherine Atkinson is an arts and professional development manager, musician, performer and artist. Currently she is the Music Development Officer at Music Generation Wexford. At Create, Katherine managed a number of public art commissions where she was responsible for liaising with artists, commissioners and communities. These include: the Tolka Public Art Commission with Dublin City Council and Fingal and Meath County Councils; the South Lee Mental Health Unit, Cork; Blackrock Hall, Primary Care Centre, Cork; Typecast in partnership with the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland (DCCoI) and Coolmine Therapeutic Community.Katherine was manager/ trainer for Extending Architecture: an Arts Council training and professional development initiative in 2016 and also managed Professional Development and Project Support for Create. In this role she was responsible for the management of the Arts Council’s Artist in the Community Scheme, which since 2002, has supported more than 250 artists – visual artists, writers, theatre practitioners, musicians, film makers, architects and dancers who have worked with many diverse communities of place/and or interest.In 2005 Katherine represented Create managing the community arts strand as part of Cork’s European Capital of Culture, and the Credit Union Residencies’ programme. She holds a Diploma in Theatre and Drama Studies from NUI Maynooth and an MA in Public Culture Studies from Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology. Katherine is a member of the Edges & Margins Collective and Visual Arts Ireland.
