As I corresponded with members of the AES Global Insurance team and Marsh brokers located across the world, I worked on numerous projects to assist in efficient running of the captive. One of my reoccurring tasks was to assist in the creation of presentations to be presented to the CFO, the treasury, underwriters, and others. I collaborated with a member of the team in Argentina to construct a construction pipeline of all current and future AES construction projects to include all project information on ProjectBI. A significant challenge of this project was conquering time differences and language barriers to reach out to managers across the world to gather the needed information in a timely manner. From the first day, I learned to take significant amounts of information and extract desired and meaningful information for others. For example, consolidating financial statements to produce only the information desired. By doing this I learned that for some information it is important to keep it short and simple to avoid losing your audience in the details. Some of the other tasks delegated to me included: calculating loss ratios, updating the policy register, revising documents, assisting with applications, organizing worker's compensation claims and information, and updating the premium/claim history for the captive. This internship showed me the importance of building and maintaining relationships with people throughout the industry as well as providing significant knowledge of the risk management and insurance field.
