This position was in the Lieberman Lab at the School of Chemistry and Biochemistry; through data collection, writing, and image production I contributed to the research projects and papers of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. Research topic was the biophysical characterization of wild-type and select olfactomedin-myocilin variants and possible implications in classifying juvenile-onset primary open-angle glaucoma as a protein-misfolding disorder.- Technical: Optimization of the expression and purification protocols and biophysical characterization of non-glaucoma associated olfactomedin domain-containing proteins collomin, olfactomedin-1, and olfactomedin-M4. Methods exercised include protein purification and expression, crystallography, polymerase chain reaction, primer design, transformation, site-directed mutagenesis, cell culture/streak-plate inoculation, DNA (genomic and plasmid) isolation and sequencing preparation, and SDS-PAGE/agarose electrophoresis. Instruments used include circular dichroism, differential scanning fluorimetry/calorimetry, ÄKTA Purifier, French press, and centrifuge.- Administrative: Correspondence with vendors and sales representatives; Maintenance of inventory, instrument calendars, and Journal Club presentations; Organization of lab space
