During my doctoral research, I investigated elk population dynamics and diseases in the Cumberland Mountains of Tennessee. I conducted research on chronic wasting disease (CWD) spread among white-tailed deer, employing various capture methods including clover traps, net launchers, drop nets, and dart projectors. I chemically immobilized and monitored over 50 deer, collecting hundreds of biological samples for disease and genetic testing. Utilizing fixed-wing aerial surveys, GPS collars, and camera traps, I tracked deer movements and behaviors, contributing valuable insights to wildlife management and disease ecology.

I operated a deer check station to support chronic wasting disease (CWD) and bovine tuberculosis testing in deer populations. I facilitated efficient processes, ensuring clear and effective communication with hunters and the public while upholding wildlife health protocols and fostering positive community relations. Additionally, I collected hundreds of biological samples and performed accurate deer aging and body measurements.

I conducted research to evaluate the effectiveness of a Lyme borreliosis management strategy aimed at reducing disease risk for thousands of people at Fort Drum Army Base. This involved safely capturing small mammals and collecting samples for disease testing. I utilized ArcGIS to create detailed maps and gathered essential small mammal, tick, and vegetation data to support collaborative research efforts.

I led a team of five researchers as project manager, overseeing field and lab research to elucidate the eco-epidemiology of a zoonotic parasite. I supervised the collection of disease samples, ensuring adherence to strong research ethics and fostering teamwork. Additionally, I safely captured over 75 meso-carnivores and small mammals.
