After having lived abroad for a great part of my life, I discovered that my two passions were culture and the environment. This led me to study Environmental Science at Carleton University where I graduated with high honours. Following that, I undertook a blueberry farming project in Chile for six years before selling to investors. Looking for new challenges, I began teaching English at an international level. This opened opportunities to work with DP World in the main port in Chile. Here, I provided language training for upper management and worked in training workshops where I taught heavy machinery operators how to become trainers themselves. Upon returning to Canada in 2021, I decided it was time to return to my true passion; the environment. Aiming to update my knowledge and bridge the gap between my experience and the requirements to work in the environmental sector, I enrolled and graduated from the Environmental Management and Assessment program at Algonquin College. Since graduating, I have had the opportunity to develop my skillset both in the field and in the office. At BCE, I performed sampling and daily inspections related to environmental health and safety. One of my primary functions was to coordinate with stakeholders to ensure timely project completion. I also had the chance to hone in on my data analysis and report writing skills. In my current role as Environmental Clerk with Solid Waste Services with the City of Ottawa, I am involved in environmental education programs dedicated to waste diversion. I actively engage with residents of various communities, delivering pertinent information in an accessible way. As team lead, I coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate project execution. I am continuously looking for challenges, professional development, and opportunities for knowledge exchange.
