In this role I help maintain the wildfowl enclosures and aid in their day to day care which may be anything from feeding them to catching them for a census. I also help with caring for the captive otters that are exhibited there by preparing their food and giving it to them in a way that would provide enrichment for them. As well as caring for the animals and landscaping their enclosures, I also make myself available for talking to the members of the public by giving presentations about the animals there and answer any questions they may have.

My most recent place of employment was at Sainsbury’s supermarket where I was a café assistant, which was a customer facing and cash handling role. This meant I was always expected to be polite and friendly and needed to understand the importance of paying close attention to customers whether they were ordering a service or enquiring about an issue. During my time spent working at Sainsbury’s I gained ‘City and Guilds’ qualifications in food preparation and cooking as well as full barista training, showing I was willing to make myself a more developed team member so to increase my responsibilities even when this meant undertaking additional work outside of my usual contracted hours. I feel that this shows I am motivated and committed to developing myself.
