Dr. Cole's research is focused on understanding the role of sex steroids on the course and development of both normal and abnormal behavior and brain function using multimodal MRI techniques. Her interdisciplinary neuroendocrine and neuroimaging research has included clinical work across the reproductive lifespan in typically-developing children and adult women and translational work investigating pregnancy and the postpartum in the common marmoset as well as models of chronic psychosocial stress and estrogen replacement in adult female rhesus monkeys.

The HBCD study plans to enroll approximately 7,500 participating families from across the United States and follow them from pregnancy through early childhood. Our goal is to understand how the brain develops and is affected by exposure to substances and other environmental, social, and biological factors during pregnancy and after birth.
