About Kathi White
Currently and independent coach with OPTAVIA where I help clients see the possibilities of a healthy lifestyle by guiding them through their health and wellness journey.Retired from my original dream life in journalism and media relations. Growing up, when I was asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, I always said a model, a flight attendant, or a news anchor. One day in high school, I added a writer to the list. When I enrolled in college, I decided to major in Radio/TV Communications and minor in journalism. It was there that I got to write my first newspaper article and I was hooked. I also enjoyed working in the radio and TV labs but I felt writing was my calling. Each semester my skills and enthusiasm grew exponentially. Fast forward and my career path was set and I started my first job two weeks after graduation. I believe communications is key in all facets of life and since starting my professional career as a newspaper and broadcast journalist, I was committed to providing timely, accurate, and balanced information to the audience. My goal has been to develop the skills necessary to tell the story with passion, compassion, and unbiased. I am a people person. One of my most gratifying jobs as a reporter was writing lifestyle articles about people and places. Crossing over to media relations in state government has been the most rewarding experience. During my 20-plus years as a spokesperson for the Texas Department of Transportation, effective communication has always been my primary responsibility. As a public information officer, I am tasked with sharing the department's initiatives and messages with the media, public outreach, employee relations, and assisting with legislative. Being able to tell the agency's story is a gift that has many facets and is ever-changing. Translating the complexities of transportation into a more easily understood form for media and public consumption requires developing a good communications toolbox. I continue to learn new skills, techniques, and best practices to meet the demands of today. I also believe that teamwork makes the dream work so it is important to have a great team.I love life, enjoy spending time with family and friends, and being a mom to four young adults. For the last year, I've been on a journey to a healthy transformation and becoming a better me. I've learned that helping other people reach their goals is not just gratifying but it really makes me feel good. The power of positivity is real and not only does it lift your spirits, it soothes the soul.
