I am currently working as a U.S. Government Contractor on the Red Hill Drinking Water Restoration Team. In response to the Navy’s November 2021 fuel release into the Red Hill Shaft, I oversee assessment of contractor performance, data validation of analytical laboratory chemistry results, and recommending best management practices to facilitate dynamic problem solving to ensure that the drinking water source(s) are protected from future contamination. Previously, I have worked as an environmental biochemist managing and executing the planning, permitting, fieldwork, and reporting for environmental investigations under CERCLA, RCRA, NEPA, HEPA, and CWA for Kealamahi Pacific Consultants. A short summary of my experience in this role included environmental project management for environmental compliance, natural resource management and planning, construction support, site characterization and investigation, and property transfer site assessments. In this role I gained experience with DoD, HDOH, and EPA requirements for site characterization, remediation, risk assessment, and sampling guidance while overseeing projects including permitting and natural resource management, baseline fisheries assessments, sediment and erosion control, environmental site assessments, soil and water quality monitoring, compliance projects, spill prevention and response planning, and environmental construction monitoring. My analytical chemistry lab-based experience stems from my time as a research tech optimizing method development for the separation, quantification, and molecular identification of glycerophospholipids. T cells that we studied were gene-edited via CRISPER-Cas9 where the SELENO-I gene was knocked out, and the lipid matrix of knock-out and wild-type cells were quantified and qualified using liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS) 2017-2020. Results from various experiments were published in the Journal of Molecular Mebatolism in January 2021. As an undergrad I participated in marine debris research and pelagic fish diet studies with consisted of stable isotopic analysis, multivariate diet analysis, and marine debris qualification via FT-IR 2014-2017. Results were published in the Wiley Journal of Aquatic Conservation in September 2020.
