I've had the privilege to hold leadership, consulting, and teaching positions at the intersections of public health and behavioral health fields in both the US and internationally with more than 35 years of experience addressing challenges in addiction and intergenerational trauma. My focus has been on special populations with women, children, and high-risk families, including military and veterans, as well as helping to develop and support systems and personnel to improve resilience through teaching and workforce development. Because trauma is often causal for substance misuse, I've also been able to work and teach in disaster and emergency preparedness with a focus onthe prevention of mental health disorder prevention and long-term sequelae. A special passion has been to help introduce evidence-based practices into treatment courts including specialized collaborative courts for dependency, family, veteran, mental health, and homeless court settings, as well as helping judicial personnel to practice self-care. Using a family and lateral lens as a certified trauma informed care trainer, I'm grateful to work with great colleagues and interdisciplinary teams which is essential address multi-system problems. I've come to fully embrace the proverb (of dubious attribution): "If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together."

Senior Program DirectorAdvocates For Human Potential, Inc. May 2019 - PresentUnited StatesWorking closely with the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) Community Services Division and AHP teammates, led the Behavioral Health Workforce Development (BHWD) Initiative that includes five behavioral health projects to date with budget of about $200 million. Because of the critical need for expanding and elevating our nation's behavioral health workforce, I've been privileged to help develop and refine project concepts, write and release RFAs, oversee rigorous grantee selection processes, and also develop and providetraining and technical assistance, administrative entity fiscal management, data collection, quality assurance and project evaluation to grantees on behalf of DHCS. With more than 300 county, tribal and nonprofit community-based behavioral health (mental health and SUD/AOD) providers, BHWD projects are working to address the need for a more diverse and highly competent behavioral health workforce that is prepared to support all communities throughout California with evidence-based practices, sustainable business practices, and commitment to justice, equity and inclusion at their worksites and their service delivery. Supporting our BHWD team members to engage effectively with grantees and advance their own professional skillsets, and find fulfillment and camaraderie in the often fast-paced and challenging work environment is also a priority in this position. -
