Professional PhotographerKathykayphotography 2014 - PresentI want to put a smile in your heart. That is what a photo can do; it can capture a moment in time, and all of the feelings that go along with it, forever. I treasure the times that I get to share my artistic eye to help my clients capture a moment in their part of making history. As a published photographer who brings exceptional knowledge and enthusiasm to every photo shoot, I am highly committed to delivering promised results with a unique artistic vision. Educational Research, Consulting, Management And TrainingCuriosity Builders 2021 - May 2022St Louis, Missouri, United StatesOur intrinsic desire to learn is inspired through our innate curiosities. From the first moment we experience something new, we learn. That constant doesn’t change and is irrespective of age. Every day, opportunities to learn present themselves. Whether they are new ideas, concepts built upon others, shared through alternate agendas, or hand-picked by us, insights are powerful and have a deep effect on how we perceive and engage with the world around us. Empowered by a deep understanding of the best pedagogical and anagogical theories, I support companies with:• Educational Management of your learning infrastructure• Understanding Educational Environments, accessibility and accommodations for the Deaf/HH• Qualitative Research• Learning Experience Research (LXD Research or LXR)• Guidance and support on your own personal learning journey• Design and facilitation of consistent employee training/onboarding• Partnership development to help broaden your outreach• Research of best practice and implementation methods• Advocating for HomeschoolingLearning happens every day. Isn't it important that we love it?

Reggio Emilia Inspired Early Childhood EducatorPrincipia School 2016 - 2021St Louis, Missouri, United StatesAs a Learning Experience Designer and Researcher, I designed engaging experiential opportunities where students’ awareness and knowledge of the world around them increased exponentially within a period of 9 months. Whether we explored trees by touching, smelling, crawling on them, digging in dead trunks, or examining all the different kinds of leaves, my students had the opportunity to live their learning. As researcher, it was my job to focus on where my students were with their understanding of concepts, and, using keen abilities to read body language, read their curiosities to guide future learning. Using play-based techniques and engaging in higher-level dialogue, I empowered my students to express what they experienced through a variety of "languages." Indoors and out, students were free to explore their curiosities with joy and without judgement around how they learned. This is how I treat all learners, regardless of their age.To promote a harmonious departmental working environment, and further organizational growth, I established a cohort, increasing cross-departmental awareness of academic initiatives between different programs. Conversations went from being 25% to 95% effective, due to the inclusion of action-plans. Subsequently, inner-departmental collaboration increased from 30% to 100%. During Covid, I quickly learned Loom, Zoom, YouTube and Google Classroom Suite, which enabled me to shift seamlessly from in-person to online learning. Always going the extra-mile, I quickly learned how to create a website, and wrote and curated content for a successful preschool age Reggio-inspired website. I'm most proud of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Initiative, where I spearheaded, and managed, outreach projects with The Foster and Adoptive Care Coalition and the Salvation Army. These projects strengthened students' emotional intelligence by modeling empathy and brought a mindful change to our school. -
Teacher Of Deaf And Hard-Of-HearingAnne Arundel County Public Schools Jul 2012 - Jun 2016Annapolis, Maryland, United StatesMost people see “itinerant” and think “tutor” when they should be thinking, “Highly skilled subject matter expert who manages multiple programs at the same time and always under budget.” Don’t believe me? Read on.Program managers handle programs. Kids aren’t “programs.” Definitely not, but in the USA students who have qualifying special needs follow Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs), Individualized Education PROGRAMs (IEPs) and/or 504s. All of these are federally regulated and managed by state specialists (Directors and Supervisors) who designate implementation and control of the programs and plans to subject matter experts (SMEs) - like me. I administered tests, analyzed the data, evaluated qualifications, communicated, and partnered with other SMEs as well as parents and administrators. I wrote the content, determined outcomes and achievables and gave my students one year to complete goals. These goals were then nurtured through hands-on applied training techniques where I used a plethora of differentiation to allow my students the best opportunity for success. Every year, I worked to help 100% of my students achieve their educational goals to an 85% or higher accuracy level. Each program also required a series of meetings which I had to initiate and run, making sure all necessary documentation was distributed accurately and in a timely manner. As an Itinerant Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH), I thrived in a diverse educational environment where I successfully managed my own time, my own schedule and worked collaboratively with others daily. It was my favorite job of all time. Each year I managed between 18 and 22 students and their programs, requiring clear and precise communication, collaboration, and partnering with more than 234 people.Through handling Individualized Education Programs, I managed 22 simultaneous projects and always meet them on-time and under-budget, and loved every minute of it. -
Co-FounderWest Arundel Creative Arts 2013 - 2016Gambrills, MdCo-founded the West Arundel Creative Arts theater program. One of the many frustrations I had with where we lived in the West County area was that there was only one performing arts center for children, and it was strictly dance-based. CTA was 30 minutes away, without bridge traffic. Seeing a need, I started a few conversations and, gradually, was led to meet the amazing Rebecca. She knew people in the area. After one meeting at a local Greek restaurant, we had established the name, the logo, the colors and handed out responsibilities. Rebecca became the President, Dan became the Vice, Kevin oversaw marketing and graphic design, and I was – you guessed it – the new Education Director. We started from the ground floor. We established relationships with local businesses and a supportive commercial property developer. Once the business plan was drawn up, we were awarded a store-front that we were able to call “home” rent-free until it rented. We moved to several spaces year/month after year/month, until the county was able to support our initiative by offering an abandoned, but useable, building at a nominal fee. Enhanced arts education efforts by developing partnerships with businesses based in the West County area resulting in steady growth and being housed in free-rent storefronts to its own county-donated and funded building.Within a few weeks, we started our program by offering dance, singing, and acting classes. We held our first fundraiser – a cabaret – by offering performance opportunities for local adult artists. That helped establish our name and make people aware of our initiative. So much so, that we had an overwhelming number of children audition for our first holiday production. Between the first production and the second, our attendance increased by 150% due to intense marketing techniques.Where there is a need – get up and meet it. You’ll never know the impact your one small voice can have until you use it. Be the voice that speaks for others. -
Education DirectorChildren'S Theatre Of Annapolis 2009 - 2015Dream-maker and opportunity provider. You want to learn how to act better? Dance? Sing? Audition? Interact with Broadway professionals to learn about the business? Or do you simply want to be in a production - guaranteed? Those are the opportunities I provided while volunteering my expertise in education to Children’s Theatre of Annapolis, a 501c3. It wasn’t a new non-profit, but it was a newly renovated building, sold to us by the county for the sole purpose of supporting the performing arts for children. Children came from 5 counties to participate in our camps/classes (musical theatre, audition, college preparatory, behind the scenes, vocal, dance intensives and classical acting techniques) and productions. It was magical to be a part of, and exceptionally rewarding. As the Education Director, I created, and then managed, the entire education program for six exhilarating years. I wrote a Scope and Sequence for all instructors to follow as a guideline for teaching the performing arts to our students, ages 4 - 18. Our program grew rapidly from one camp to 12 camps (including camps for homeschoolers – an often-overlooked population) and numerous masterclasses and workshops per year. This involved recruiting, interviewing, and negotiating contracts with prospective performing arts instructors, and master-class providers, including Broadway touring companies and off-Broadway production companies. I maintained all rosters, handled financial responsibilities, and managed accommodations for special needs. As a Board member and Parent-volunteer, I produced, stage managed, designed, constructed, and implemented costumes, sets and decorations for more than 15 productions, resulting in numerous awards and recognitions for a quickly growing organization. In addition, I supported the marketing department by supplying photographs for media events which helped our organization grow exponentially. They say they were lucky to have me. I was actually the lucky one.

Curriculum Designer/Author/Editor (Elearning Content Designer)Connections Academy 2011 - 2012Home-BasedWhat an amazing opportunity to take something you love and care about deeply and educate others about it in a fun and experiential-based way. For this role, I utilized deep subject matter knowledge and experience, to co-write new and relevant course content, learning modules, and assessments for High School level coursework in ASL 1, and 2. I developed curricular content based on National Standards for Foreign Languages and utilized my my own training techniques to help convey clear assignments for self-directed learners. I thoroughly enjoyed collaborating with a cross-functional Learning Management System and Instructional Design team to make content engaging, experiential-based, and completely interactive and FUN! -
Military SpouseUs Navy 1994 - 2012United StatesI was commended for my years of service as a military spouse by the United States Department of the Navy upon my husband's retirement in 2012. While in the military, and beyond, I managed all departments within a household of 8 individuals, including six children born between 1996 and 2005 while my spouse frequently served on carrier-based deployments as a Naval Officer and helicopter pilot performing combat/search and rescue missions for the United States Navy and our country. I coordinated and supervised multiple moves, perfecting incredible organizational skills. I became extremely efficient at handling all repairs, maintenance, and renovations to household goods and homes, while successfully managing and often coming in under project budgets, proving initiative, creativity, and resourcefulness. There were many times when I had to manage what would be to others as extremes amounts of stress during very difficult situations. However, to me this was simply my life and I continually handled our fast paced lives with grace. Homeschooling all children simultaneously, evidenced my ability to adapt to frequent changes with ease. With whole-child development in mind, I utilized the best of a variety of curriculums, creating and designing my own, which emphasized curiosity-based projects and student-led investigations, all focused on deeper knowledge and nourishment of natural questioning. With every transition and/or relocation, I built networks from the ground up, utilizing fantastic communication skills to establish and build valuable relationships and lasting partnerships. -
Military Homeschool Coordinator / Teacher Of Asl And Art / Field Trip CoordinatorU. S. Army Garrison Fort George G. Meade 2007 - 2010I seem to have a knack for finding an area that needs improvement and jumping in and making it happen. I guess the sentiment that there’s no such thing as a non-working mother runs pretty deep with me. Just ask my six children! We were a homeschooling family and the only local free program that offered a “co-op” was at Ft Meade. They offered one class and hosted 6 families. Yeah, I saw the potential, and lack of marketing, and jumped right into another educational leadership role by being the Homeschool Coordinator of the Fort Meade Homeschool Cooperative. This role further fed my personal desire to meet people and positively impact their lives. Serving as primary contact, through the liaison office, for referrals from the Ft Meade facility and Anne Arundel County Public Schools, I provided educational assistance and homeschooling guidance to over 150 Department of Defense children every year. I was formally recognized for my successful work with base Command and the School Liaison Office for outstanding volunteerism when I worked to procure a larger location on base for our cooperative to meet and offer service member families weekly organized classes. My responsibilities included guiding parents on state and county requirements, scheduling of classes, recruiting and organizing teachers, setting up the classrooms, and monitoring compliance with state regulations. I maintained a positive and open line of communication between the parents, instructors and the administration at Ft. Meade. I assisted the base initiatives through the establishment , and maintenance of, an open line of communication between families and base registration personnel, by managing the on-boarding and educational registration of new homeschooling families. Best of all, I hosted lots of parties at our home. -
Teacher Of The Hearing-Impaired And Coordinator Of InterpretersDuval County Public Schools 1993 - 1997Pinedale Elementary - I love working with the deaf and hard-of-hearing. I was fortunate enough to teach 13 multiply challenged students in a designated, self-contained classroom and 4 “mainstreamed” students who worked with grade-level teachers. Instructing hearing impaired students with vision, cognitive, physical, and behavioral challenges required designing and implementing my own curriculum. I utilized child-centered teaching skills and created multi-sensory lesson plans with the whole-child in mind to meet individual student needs. Every year I wrote and managed all my students’ IEPs and 504s. I was nominated for Teacher of the Year when I recognized a need and designed and facilitated classes in ASL for fellow teachers and students’ family members. Although it may be shocking to think that families wouldn’t know how to communicate with their own deaf children, many do not. Sadly, many never learn any form of sign language. I did my part to make sure that didn’t happen on my watch. Another nomination came after my implementation of a series of “all-school training sessions” so that ALL teachers at the school – regardless of their direct contact with my students, learned about the nuances of being hard-of-hearing or deaf, some training in the art of communication and some basic survival signs. I’m a firm believer that everyone should know basic signs. Equity and inclusion don’t stop with the color of one’s skin. When I wasn’t teaching, I was supervising students with 504s across all grade levels and working with their mainstream teachers. I also trained and managed the schedules of eight Sign-language interpreters that were providing curricular accommodations throughout our school. Biltmore Elementary - While I waited for my next school to create a classroom for me, I worked with kindergarten students with Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD) and oversaw their daily education, which I tried to make as play-based as possible.
