Hostess Server
This was another hospitality and customer service job that provided me with more organization, communication, leadership, and responsibility experience.
Hostess, Food Runner, Floor Manager
As a hostess, I was tasked with restaurant cleanliness, organizing the seating rotation, managing a wait-list, communicating with the servers to assess their workloads during busy shifts, communicating with management regarding guest inquiries, and working with two other hosts to create an effective system for running the shift. As a food runner, I was in charge of carrying plates of food from the kitchen to the tables and ensuring the guests were receiving their desired plates. I was also tasked with rolling silverware throughout the shift, sweeping the line where servers had most of their foot traffic to prevent falls, cleaning off tables, and communicating with the hosts about which tables were cleaned, etc. I was also responsible for communicating with management and servers if I saw any possible problems in the restaurant arise. As a shift manager, I was responsible for cooking the baked potatoes and keeping track of the time to do so. I was also tasked with creating the weekly schedule for the hosts and food runners. This responsibility required a lot of organization and communication with the employees on the schedule. I was in charge of guest relations and was encouraged to speak to every table during the shift as a way to ensure their satisfaction. This position was a learning experience and another opportunity to work closely with management. I was promoted to this position twice a week and within my first five months, while working as a hostess four other shifts per week. I learned responsibility, the importance of communication, and the true meaning of customer service.I left this job due to relocation.
Team Member, Team Trainer
While working the front register, I was in charge of taking and preparing customer orders, cleaning the dining room and restrooms, ensuring customer satisfaction, and helping with stock and other tasks assigned by management. As a drive-thru attendant, I was responsible for taking and preparing orders in the drive thru in a quick and efficient manner to keep up with a low "drive time." I was tasked with cleaning the front line's dishes during closing shifts, and stocking throughout my shift. As wrap station member, I needed to maintain an organized method to wrap all the biscuits and sandwiches coming in from both front line and drive thru orders. I was also required to keep up on the grill so not to run short on any supplies required for the wrap station. In addition, I was the linking communication from the managers on the front line to the employees in the kitchen to announce what was needed in the fryers, on the grill, or on the stove. As a biscuit-maker, I was responsible for quickly and effectively prepare the biscuits during the morning and evening "rush times" on the weekends and weeknights. My other responsibilities included cleaning of my station and associated dishes and stocking upon my leaving. As team trainer, a position I was promoted to after about five months of employment, I was able to work one-on-one with the managers to learn proper protocols and how to efficiently run a shift. I gained experience in management and leading a team while maintaining the responsibility of the actions of all employees. I left this job to pursue the management position at Harper's.
