About Kathryn Smith

I am an analytical scientist with experience in mass spectrometry and conducting research in a clinical setting. I am the Lead Scientist over our MassSpec DevOps group at ARUP Labs developing and validating LC-MS/MS methods for the clinical toxicology laboratories. In my previous position as an Instrument Research Scientist at Tandem Labs, I performed routine laboratory analysis for pharmaceutical drugs extracted from biological samples using LC-MS/MS. Through my unique fellowship experience at the Utah Public Health Laboratories, I gained experience in method development using a newly purchased Agilent ICP-MS for the biomonitoring of mercury in hair. I completed a Ph.D. in analytical chemistry through the University of Utah under the supervision of Professor John Conboy. My career goals are to become proficient in a wide range of analytical techniques and apply my skills as a research scientist to solve real world problems in a clinical setting.
