I love to help other people meet their writing goals, whether the author is writing fiction, memoir, or other creative nonfiction. A certain amount of the writing process is carried out in solitude, but you don't have to go the entire distance alone—I offer valuable feedback to help hone the work until it is ready to bring into the world. By analyzing structure and character development and the accumulation of imagery I help authors achieve effective communication through story; through careful attention to everything from punctuation choice to concision to chapter organization, I make sure the prose efficiently supports that communication.Specialties: * Speaking about the writing process and leading writing workshops for organizations, libraries, and schools.* Polishing work for publication. Writing book-length material can be daunting even for previously published authors—so many words and concepts pile up before you reach "The End"!—and since I have a mind that picks up patterns, I can find overused words, story inconsistencies, and other recurring problems.
