Kathy J. Bauer is currently senior vice president of human resources for Global Atlantic Financial Company. Ms. Bauer's focus is on leading the HR components of mergers & acquisitions, partnering with the President of the Life Division in building and developing the team and life business, and employee communications/engagement. Kathy joined Global Atlantic as the result of the sale of Aviva USA's life business in October 2013.Prior to the sale, Ms. Bauer was appointed to the SVP of Human Resources of Aviva USA in July 2009. Ms. Bauer provides strategic counsel to the CEO and Executive Committee, with particular focus on executive development and coaching, leadership and cultural change, organizational development, talent management and employee engagement. Upon the elimination of the Aviva North America regional operating model in mid-2012, Ms. Bauer assumed leadership responsibilities for additional HR functions – including benefits, compensation, employee relations, learning & organizational development, payroll/systems and recruitment. Ms. Bauer began her career with the company in 1973 when she joined Des Moines, Iowa-based Central Life Assurance Company, which later became part of Aviva. She held a number of management roles within insurance administration for 19 years prior to her move to human resources. Ms. Bauer earned her associate’s degree in early childhood development from Northeast Missouri State (now Truman State University). She has completed insurance, human resources and executive education programs through Life Office Management Association (LOMA) and the Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM). She completed the Financial Management for Non-Financial Executives Program at the University of Wisconsin. Ms. Bauer previously served on the Board for the United Way of Central Iowa and is currently serving on the Health Cabinet for the United Way of Central Iowa.
