On Site Coordinator, Kodiak Head Start

Stepped up to take leadership position to ensure regulations were followed, maintained safety of children & assisted newly hired staff learn their positions. Ensured documentation was completed in a timely manner for both job positions.

I’ve offered a variety of art classes for local youth through the Arts Coucil’s Sum’Arts for Kids. I’ve offered classes such as preschool art & painting, marine mosaics & marine cutout painting. Classes are mostly held over summer break & occasionally spring break.

Conducted intake interviews, maintained client files, assisted consumers with disabilities through their individual plan for employment that was to help them over come barriers to gain and/or maintain employment. Ensured I followed HIPPA & confidentiality of consumers.Also was part of lead staffing that did the logistics & planning for a yearly Women’s Wellness Retreat, Transition Age Youth event for village & town students and KANA’s annual last chance bazaar.

My first AIR project was at North Star Elementary in Kodiak where close to 250 children painted a salmon plywood cutout. I visited each classroom 3 times over a 2 month time period. The completed projects were put up on display in the playground. I also offered a afternoon work shop for school district employees. My second AIR project (March 2017) was in Akhiok where every student & staff member created a mosaic salmon that was hung up in the main hallway. The third project (March 2018) was in Larsen Bay where all staff & students painted a plywood salmon cutout which was put on display in the school cafeteria. Also, had a open workshop for community members to attend & create.

For 8 school years I was the Home Visitor (Teacher/Family advocate) for the Kodiak Head Start home based program. I used the Parents As Teachers Curriculum with families during our weekly visits & bi-weekly group social. The program promoted literacy & kindergarten readiness skills. My weekly activities guided parents on activities that they could do at home with their preschool aged child. Also, assisted families setting goals & accessing community resources. At the end of this program, I moved over to the role of Family Advocate for the center base program which was a larger case load. Also, assisted in the classroom as needed to ensure the safety of the children.

Taught Intro to Stained Glass & Stained Glass II at the college level. Created syllabus, project for class, assisted students with learning to use tools safely to create a stained glass project.

I commercial fished on a family owned business. In the summer, I stacked leads upon our 45 foot boat while we commercial seined for salmon. In the spring time, we long lined for halibut IFQ’s. I was able to work up to 20 hour days for extended periods of time, worked in adverse weather conditions, maintained cleanliness of boat as it was our working/living vessel, worked in a male dominated career where I was able to keep up with strenuous tasks, ability to work well as a team especially when under pressure to get jobs done faster due to quick change of weather, tide, etc...., sorted fish. We fished out of Larsen Bay on the west side of Kodiak Island which we were based out of remote location all summer.
