In October I started at Media One as the Production Controller for 5 magazines, this involved everything from chasing customers for copy, designing adverts, planning the magazines and setting the magazines ready to be uploaded for print. This role has evolved to me being the production controller for 10 magazines that are published 7 times a year, I mainly concentrate on the admin side of the role now such as planning and copy chasing for all 10 titles. Part of my role is updating the websites with news, listings and competitions that are all run in the 10 titles, contacting the customers and the winners in due course.

At DetailExtra Ltd I took on a more varied role, building relationships with customers whilst chasing copy, designing adverts, proof reading and editing our bi-monthly magazines Giftware Review and Garden Centre Buyer magazines. During my time I have also learned a lot on the digital side such as making web banners, sending out solus e-shots, weekly e-news letters and updating the websites weekly with all new content. I was also been in charge of updating the companies twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts.

In November Focus Publishing was sold to an American company and my role changed dramatically, during this time I learnt how to use InDesign and remake all our adverts into the new Sandhills format. We also opened up all customer accounts on the new system and transferred all information over. Once this was done our main role was to make the adverts up to be print ready standard each week for our weekly and fortnightly. I would also paginate the magazines each issue and upload the pages to the printers once they had been checked over to confirm there were no errors. I still looked after the subscriptions and organised any magazines required for any shows that we went to.

In 2012 I was promoted to production manager continuing with the role as below but taking on additional roles such as approving supplier invoices, organising the distribution of magazines, analysing flat plans, Health and safety for new employees and organising training. During this time I also took over doing the subscriptions for the magazines, placing customers onto the system and ensuring they received the magazines on time.

Production Assistant working in a busy publishing house, duties included planning the magazines ( two weekly magazines and one monthly magazine) booking the advertisements onto an in house system, proof reading adverts as they came back from our type setters to ensure all was correct as per the client specifications. Updating and maintaining 3 company websites which included opening customer accounts and uploading their stock from their website to ours, I also had to upload the magazines onto the internet for the general public to view. Other odd jobs were placed in production so we would ensure stationery was ordered and kept at the correct level, using Sage to produce invoices for customers and sending them out each week, filing all insert reports and account files. We were also the first contact for all enquires either over the phone or via email.
Optical Assistant
Main roles included answering the telephone, making appointments for the general public, dispensing glasses including helping choose the right lenses and frames and ensuring that they fit the customer to the highest spec. During this role I also taught customers one to one how to fit contact lenses, the handling, cleaning and care of contact lenses thus ensuring that they were completely confident before signing up on contract.
Reception Administrator
Main roles included being the first contact for customers to make appointments either via telephone or face to face, filing personal records, taking payment for glasses and other optical goods, stock checking and keeping clean and tidy the contact lens solutions. Phoning customers to confirm appointments and to let them know if their glasses/contact lenses were in.
