Author, Public Speaker
CurrentI am a motivating public speaker, who talks to audiences throughout the US and is known for shattering stereotypes about disability, and for inspiring others to be happier and more fulfilled by integrating their differences into their life. My upcoming book, "Firewalk: Embracing Different Abilities," is about when we learn to see our disability or difference as a gift, we can use it as a transformative tool for positive growth. Instead of struggling against what is difficult, or trying to “manage” or “fix” our difference, we can embrace the very thing we resist —and allow it to strengthen us.I provide trainings, workshops and keynote presentations to individuals, family members and professionals about living a full and radiant life with a disability. Each presentation is done with a combination of story telling, lecture, discussion, interactive exercises and personal reflections. Using the core premises of my upcoming book, audiences feel empowered and motivated to use their abilities to contribute to their community and the world. Topics include: Releasing the Myth of Disability, Disability as a Spiritual Process, Empowering Your Child with a Healthy Sense of Self, Healthy Sexuality and Relationships - Releasing the Victim, and Beyond Disability and Political Correctness. Presentations can also be tailored to an agency/organization's needs. Much of my work comes from the experience of living with cerebral palsy (CP), which affects my speech and motor coordination. I view CP as a natural part of who she is.
