The question, "What did you do in this position,"should really read, "What didn't you do in this position?" I covered five counties' business events and seminars covering economic development, health, education, banking and finance, arts and science, Tech Valley and more. I was the photographer, as well as writer, I put together the paper's newsmakers, "Good Things" (press releases mostly concerning the non-profits and arts) and developed my own leads and stories. The only thing I didn't do the map and run off the PDFs--that was done in production. I hope to see the Hudson Valley region get another weekly print newspaper so the business community in the territory that makes up the mid-Hudson region knows what is happening in each county. Keeping the mid-Hudson cohesive and working together will help bring us the prosperity we need to sustain a healthy and happy labor force, as well as keep the next generation here to help the region grow.

The seven-county mid-Hudson business paper since established by Ed Klein in 1986, the Hudson Valley Business Journal was the 'go to' business publication for the region. Sorry to see this paper, as well as Westfair's Hudson Valley edition, HVBiz, eliminate BOTH papers in June, 2012. Happy to report that HVBJ's last editor, Debbie Kwiatoski, bought the digital rights to Hudson Valley Business Journal and is now producing an e-business journal for the region, The Hudson Valley Business Digital. There was so much confusion about the two publications, they eventually cancelled each other out. Here's to the success of Hudson Valley Business Digital, hvbizjournal.com, in giving our business community the continuing coverage it needs to boost the region's economy and connectivity

The year the Trade Center came down was a watershed year for me as a reporter--from visiting Ground Zero to meeting with Jay Jonas, one of the few fireman who survived the implosion in a stairwell--amazing, heart-wrenching year to be a writer....so good to see The Photo News has come back a bit and has started reporting on real local news again!
