About Katia Hetter

I am an editor, producer and writer with many years of experience working for multimedia news organizations. I become CNN's Senior Editor for Wellness in July 2023 after working for three years to create and grow CNN's Wellness and Space & Science one-person teams into fully developed sections. I joined CNN.com in 2011 to cover travel, nature, parenting, relationships, entertainment and other topics. I helped launch #ATL24, CNN's interactive project spending 24 hours at the world's busiest airport. I also created and launched two editions of CNN's "50 spots, 50 states"​ travel project, featuring natural and other wonders in each of the 50 states. I was promoted to senior producer in February 2018. I covered the post-9/11 redevelopment of the World Trade Center site for Newsday, the marriage-defining moments of San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom’s first acts in office as a City Hall reporter for the San Francisco Chronicle, and major U.S. Supreme Court decisions and the ups and downs of the stock market for U.S. News & World Report.I was a member of CNN Digital's 2017 RTDNA National Edward R. Murrow "Excellence in Innovation" Award-winning team for its coverage of the solar eclipse and a member of Newsday's 2004 Pulitzer Prize finalist team for coverage of the 2003 New York City blackout. I also co-chaired the Online News Association's student newsroom program at ONA's annual conference for many years. I honed my editing skills working with teen writers at New Youth Connections, a magazine published by the non-profit Youth Communication and written by and for New York City teenagers.I also have freelanced for CNN.com, The New York Times, the Atlanta Journal Constitution, RachaelRay.com, Babycenter.com, the Advocate, Newsday, Entertainment Weekly, skirt! magazine and others.Specialties: Reporting, researching and editing government, disaster, business and lifestyle stories on tight deadlines; ability to jump into new research areas and get readers up to speed on complex issues.
