Hello! My name is Katherine "Katie" Duffy and I recently graduated from Santa Clara University in March 2024. While at SCU, I majored in Political Science with an International Relations emphasis and minored in Public Health Sciences and Sustainable Food Systems. My coursework in these three disciplines allowed me to explore the world of international development and human rights. In 2023, I traveled to Zambia as a Miller Center Lewis Family Fellow, serving as a Consultant for Good Nature Agro (GNA). GNA is a social enterprise that provides high-quality, nutritious legume seeds to small-scale farmers to move them into the middle class. While in Zambia, I conducted qualitative field research– including interviewing NGOs and Agro-dealers and conducting focus groups of rural farmers. I applied to return to Zambia to conduct research in these fields via the United States Fulbright Program and was the recipient of a Finalist- Alternate Candidate award. I furthered my quantitative and qualitative research skills as a research assistant at the Agroecology, Climate Resilience, and Food Justice Lab. While at ACRAF, I worked on numerous projects which have equipped me with various mixed-methods research experiences, including surveys, interviews, quantitative analysis, data visualization, and report writing. Coupled with my courses in economics, political science, public health, and statistics, working at ACRAF has broadened my statistical analysis skills, as well as taught me various data analysis software such as RStudio and Excel. Additionally, I am in the process of teaching myself Python and STATA. Concurrently, I am finishing editing my Honors Thesis, "Basic Needs Insecurity In Higher Education And The Impacts On Academic Performance & Social Mobility", to be published through collaboration with ACRAF. While a student at Santa Clara University, I used findings from our Basic Needs Reports to demand policy changes at the university level. For my basic needs advocacy, I was one of four students awarded the Student Life Award from Santa Clara University President in May 2024. Moreover, I have experience presenting research at numerous conferences. I have experience working in marketing, social science research, market research, consulting, and policy writing, and have a breadth of experience in leadership. I am interested in facilitating a career path that intersects developmental economics, public policy, and healthcare. Aside from work, I love to travel, run and cook! Please feel free to message me.
