This position solely covers a 17-county region in southwest Michigan, and is structured to work toward the goals outlined in Governor Rick Snyder's April 2014 Residential Recycling Plan and Michigan’s 2007 Solid Waste Policy. Primary responsibilities:- Promote residential recycling and provide technical assistance to local waste management programs, county boards and coordinators, and non-profit organizations. This includes collaboration on identified opportunities to increase recycling access, composting infrastructure, and waste utilization.- Recommend policies and solutions to address needs and opportunities identified through field work. Share these considerations with the Governor's Recycling Council, internal upper management, external partners, and legislators.- Coordinate outreach and education through presentations at conferences and events, trainings and webinars, and developing educational materials. Material examples include: Recycling 101 pamphlets, Why Recycling Costs Money cards, and funding guides.- Grant development and administration.- Support technical understanding of Michigan’s waste management and recycling systems at a community level. This includes discussion of design and operational considerations of material recovery facilities, landfills, and composting facilities.

This position solely covered an eight county region in southwest Michigan, and was focused on the regulatory requirements of Part 115, Solid Waste Management, of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act, 1994 PA 451 (as amended). Primary responsibilities:- Enforce regulatory procedures, in accordance with Part 115, through regular inspection of operations and recordkeeping at six sanitary landfill facilities and ten solid waste transfer stations/processing plants across the region. - Perform comprehensive engineering design review and certification of vertical/lateral expansion design plans, leachate management and gas collection design plans, upgrades in on-site management systems and newly applied technology across the region. Perform regular on-site inspections during construction of new landfill cells.- Review/grant operating license and construction permit applications for landfill facilities, transfer stations and processing plants across the region.- Provide customer service to the general public and facility owners regarding questions or concerns regulated under Part 115.

Primary responsibilities: - Gain skills using MicroStation in order to fill in type lines, assist in the design of highway underdrain systems, and identify areas with independent ditching.- Work with a survey team in the field to stake right-of-ways and manhole offsets.
