Hi, I'm Katie and this is my story.⚘️I received my dyspraxia diagnosis when I was 17. Up to that point, I had successfully masked my disability and was doing reasonably at school. However, as work got harder and pressure toward exams rose, cracks started to show and my mask was getting harder to keep up.My diagnosis answered some questions but not all and I needed support from others. The problem was that, like many girls, I didn't present how is often 'expected' and help didn't seem to be made for me.My A levels were not bad but not great and still a success given that I wasn't expected to sit them. Nevertheless, I was accepted by Bangor University to study Primary Education. Thankfully, my university provided support and enabled me, with considerable effort, to achieve a 2:1.My career started as intended as a primary school teacher. But teaching in a school presented a whole range of different challenges and I decided it was not the environment in which I could thrive.I became self-employed, got some great support from The Hive and NTU along the way and have thrived as a tutor supporting the educational development of dozens of young people.I was lucky to find the support I needed and deserved. As a result, 'i am...' was created to eliminate the need for luck but rather celebrate and nurture talents and individual differences.
