Since 2021 I've been a Research Assistant for Dr. Freeburg. Our current research is the Public Library Routines Project. I participate in data collection and analysis, contribute to articles and presentations, and help with writing proposals and planning for future studies.From F2022-F24 I was a graduate course assistant for several courses. Built AmeriCorps Resource Library for Volunteer Maine in MS Teams. Migrated documents from ASC Basecamp, updated templates, and found and brought in useful resources in the CNCS Knowledge Network. Set up organized repository of resources for Maine AmeriCorps grantees.

Supported the teachers and students at LRHS. Taught library skills (finding and evaluating sources, academic honesty, search strategies, the research process, etc.). Developed the collection by evaluating holdings, removing outdated works, and purchasing new items. Helped teachers find resources for lessons or units. Spoke with students about reading interests to help them discover books for leisure reading. Managed the school's makerspace where students enhanced school projects or pursued hobbies through creative, hands-on STEAM activities (3D printer, take-it-apart, soft arts, legos, modeling clay, etc). Supervised a library clerk who helped with day-to-day activities like circulation, readers advisory, displays, and book processing. Was responsible for library administration, budget, planning, and evaluation. Collaborated with other school and public libraries in the district. Advised the ASTRA Service Club.

Assisted patrons at Reference, Lending, and Youth Services desks. At Reference and Youth Services I helped patrons to locate books and movies, use computers and online resources, and find answers to questions. At Lending I circulated materials, signed patrons up for library cards, and accepted overdue fines. Regularly covered the Reference desk on Saturday mornings and picked up evening hours on weekdays as my schedule allowed.

Westbrook, Maine

For this national nonprofit, I managed the Rides In Sight project sponsored by Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Hired, trained, and supervised 3 researchers for the project. Worked with coders, marketing team, and sponsor to build and launch the program. In 2013 Rides In Sight debuted a national toll-free hotline and in 2014 a searchable online database for senior transportation options. Hired, trained, and supervised hotline staff. Through this project we also encouraged developing new ITN affiliates in communities with inadequate senior transportation options, and we set up a program to subsidize eye healthcare rides through ITN affiliates and other senior transportation partners.Prior to April 2013, I was an Affiliate Support Representative. I helped affiliates as they replicated the Independent Transportation Network model in their own communities. I supported them as they developed into their own strong, sustainable community-supported organizations. Areas of support included board development, fundraising, recruiting and training staff and volunteers, filing legal documents, and building community support. ITN affiliates provide dignified transportation to seniors 24/7 in private automobiles, easing the transition away from driving for aging motorists.

Served at the Maine Commission for Community Service (now Volunteer Maine) as an AmeriCorps*VISTA Leader. Helped support 20 VISTA members, and recruited members throughout the year. Helped to organize an annual conference. As a VISTA leader I performed the following roles to build capacity for the Maine VISTA Project: ambassador, facilitator/educator, mentor, liaison, recruiter, and resource generator.

Tappahannock, Va

As solo librarian at SMS boarding school I ran the library and participated in many aspects of school life. Major library responsibilities included: collection development, reference, library instruction, cataloging, and periodical and electronic resource management. Other roles in the school during my tenure included: advisor, writing lab instructor, weekend duty team, study hall proctor, substitute teacher, technology committee, club sponsor, and minimester teacher.

Served as AmeriCorps VISTA with ITNAmerica. That year the organization began the national rollout, replicating the Portland ITN model in other cities across the country. Organized a summit meeting about senior transportation, and supported the new ITN affiliates as they planned and started service. Built capacity, so the new affiliates could provide dignified, affordable transportation for seniors.
