I have always loved music — sung music, played music, studied music, idolized music. But I was terrified to write music. What if I wrote something “wrong”? My piano teacher notably encouraged male students to improvise and compose, but not female students.For me, it took an emotional breakdown one pivotal night in college, and the courage gained when that piece went on be performed by the local symphony. I earned my Master’s in music composition, studied film scoring, and jumped into the world of writing trailer music for Hollywood’s biggest advertising campaigns.I’ve loved getting to write the dark track with massive brass used in the trailer of Venom: Let There Be Carnage, analyzing the musical world of Star Wars to create music appropriate for Disney’s Andor campaign, and composing the award-winning, orchestral piece used for the Mary Poppins Returns campaign.My music has won two Golden Trailer Awards, and a Gold Clio, and, in one screening, was specifically called out for its “powerful role in storytelling”. I’ve written for film and ads, been commissioned for orchestral and choral works, plus arranged and orchestrated music and songs for other composers.My dream? To keep writing music. I love the creative collaboration that goes into filmmaking and video games, and I love the emotional journey that music takes us on when serving the story.
