State funding has tripled rocketing from… Show more A successful socio-political lobby and patients’ rights advocacy campaign that changed the national legislation governing the Hepatitis C treatment and keeps on developing.As of 2016 fighting Hepatitis is listed among top 3 national healthcare policy priorities in Latvia. Patients enjoy 100% state compensated therapies, and a selection of modern therapies are added to the state compensated treatment arsenal rearranging the Hep C treatment system. State funding has tripled rocketing from 4m in 2015 up to 15m euro in 2018 as a result of patient activism.Co-payments for treating children were abolished in 2014. Even though it was a halfway measure achieved by joint efforts of all patient organisations in Latvia it is an important milestone in our journey to achieve a universal access to Hepatitis C treatment for everyone.It's an unprecedented achievement in the history of Latvia where public petition combining electronic and paper-and-ink signatures have succeeded to change a legislation and achieve the stated goal in its entirety.
