I worked on night duty at the hospice until 2007. I then worked on a 2 year project post whilst still employed by the hospice. This project focussed on the smooth transition of care for patients moving from the general hospital to the hospice setting. I worked as the Lead Nurse in the outpatient and daycare department at the hospice from 2009 until 2022. I helped to transform this unit from a generalist palliative care unit to a specialist unit offering a wide range of services and support to patients and their families, based on need and at the time they needed it. I have a lot of experience in advance care planning and also worked on a two year project with a heart failure nurse specialist which resulted in her setting up a heart failure clinic as part of the hospice services. I enjoy working as part of a multidisciplinary team and collaborative working. I have good communication and organisational skills. I have a deep belief in the value of palliative care and the difference it can make to the quality of life of people living with serious illnesses.
