This role is responsible for overseeing a team that efficiently and appropriately processes applications for the Board of Adjustment, Zoning Verifications, Non-Conforming Use Registrations, and Short Term Rental Permits. This position is with the Land Development and Zoning Section within the Development Services Department. As a Planner in this department I am responsible for providing excellent customer service by completing zoning verification requests, managing rezoning and plan amendment cases, and presenting these cases to Planning and Zoning Commissions.

I interned with the Harlingen-San Benito MPO where my tasks included data collection, public outreach through surveying, and working with ArcMap to create zoning maps for member cities. I also learned of the planning and grant application processes by helping with the Planning & Zoning Department of Harlingen.

This study abroad program required us to live with a host family in Bonn, Germany for the first 4 weeks until we moved and stayed in Berlin for the final week. We went on tours and excursions of different sustainable communities along with places of cultural importance.
