Clients include: BC Government, Consortia of 50 leading universities around Asia-Pacific, Elsevier, science funding agencies in Western and Eastern Canada, industry consortia for EU field trials.(Concurrent with role below from 2015-2020)

Re-established the Genomics and Society area at Genome BC, holding day to day responsibility for activities in this area. Worked with board, cross-disciplinary teams and moderated international panels. Established the first competition in Canada for researchers targetted at understanding the impact of this new technology on society across both health and natural resource sectors. Reviewed proposals for rapid COVID-19 funding.Focus: Responsible innovation, sustainability, impact of new technology on society

Role included:1. Synthesis and communication of science, supporting dialogue with policymakers and the general public on key issues (including report on climate change impacts on New Zealand, see below)2. Evaluation of science and innovation policy in a small country context as Executive Officer for the Small Advanced Economies Initiative3. Building understanding around evidence-informed policymaking and communication of riskHon TIM GROSER (NZ Minister): “Yes, I personally think this report is the best compilation of science that I have read in recent years, from any source.”, NZ Parliament - 8th August 2013. New climate target set by Government August 16th.Small Advanced Economies Initiative: Brought together senior policymakers from across 6 small nations (Israel, New Zealand, Ireland, Finland, Denmark and Singapore) to discuss and understand the context behind local science and innovation policies, both historical and new. I held responsibility for briefing notes, position papers and analysis reports for senior policymakers and preparations for face-to-face meetings.

Policy analysis for public and private clients including: modelling of economics, technical performance and consumer uptake, analyzing potential policy instruments, initiating and developing field trials for low carbon technologies.Completed nearly 40 projects, example clients include: UK National Grid, BG Group, Metropolitan Police, UK Committee on Climate Change and more. See also secondments to TfL and Nissan (below)Responsibilities:* Design of work programmes and delivery of projects to clients * Managing analysis and data input from subcontractors and junior consultancy staff * Writing proposals for clients and winning work* Building industry-academic consortia for large scale EU field trialsRaised over EUR 60 million in funding for field trials. In each of these proposals I also followed the projects through into their implementation phase.Technologies included: Electric/hybrid and alternative fuel vehicles, renewable energy generation (e.g. PV, Solar thermal, wind), CCS, building energy efficiency, heating systems & controls, electricity & gas markets

Seconded to Nissan to work in their strategy team for low carbon vehicles, working with UK and Japanese colleagues

Secondment to Major ProjectsIn charge of £20m programme leading the construction, delivery, commissioning and entryinto service of hydrogen buses, refuelling stations and workshop in London. Also responsible forcommunicating technology with press, general public, and other transit agencies worldwide.
