Duties and responsibilities include• Implementation and management of the company QAKE standard.• Interface with customers with regards to audits and customer complaints.• Interface with suppliers with regards to audits and supplier complaints.• Lead and drive through quality improvements and process improvement projects.• Ensure all raw materials and finished products meet statistical release criteria.

North West

Develop and manufacture of specialist chemicals for a diverse customer base including automotive and food industry. Two manufacturing sites within the North West, with internal R&D facilities. The company employed 70 people with a turnover in the region of 16 million.Reporting to the Managing Director. Primary responsibility maintaining environmental and quality standards and accreditation. Regulatory and customer audits with some input into the sites BS OHSAS 18001:2007 standard.Duties and responsibilities include:• Management of the company IS0 9001 and 14001 standards.• Interface with customers with regards to audits and customer complaints.• QHSE and site system audits.• Direct contact with the sites appointed PPC regulatory Officer.• Reporting of EPA permit requirements, Pollution Inventory and Packaging returns.• Chairman of the sites HAZOP committee.• Source and approve new company service providers.• COMAH assessment and implementation of necessary Low Tier COMAH regulatory requirements.Significant achievements include:• Reduction of operating costs for empty packaging disposal from 32K cost into 8K return.• Significant improvement of housekeeping standard both in the production and raw material storage areas.• Project managed the installation of a new bulk solvent facility on site.

North West

Develop and manufacture PTFE coated fabrics, tapes and belting for technically demanding applications including chemically resistant conveyor belting, high performance adhesive tapes and heavy duty belting for a diverse customer base. On site processes included coating, conversion, slitting and packaging as well as both manufacturing and R&D facilities. The company employed 30 people with a turnover in the region of 1.5 million. Reporting to the General Manager, this position was paired with that of the Operations Manager to produce a team to effectively co-ordinate both the manufacturing and technical sides of the business to ensure the cost effective and efficient running of the facility.Duties and responsibilities included:• Management of a team of 18 people.• Establish and maintain plant quality procedures.• Implement & maintain ISO 9001:2000 accreditation. • Process improvement to reduce product manufacturing costs.• Customer interface for new projects. • Investigation of customer complaints & subsequent corrective action.• Analysis of KPI’s to monitor overall site performance.• Supplier development; product performance & development, supply & cost.• Staff appraisals, training & development, disciplinary issues and recruitment.• Health and safety management.• Develop & maintain procedures and risk assessments in line with current legislation.• Operator training.Significant achievements included:• ISO 9001:2000 accreditations achieved in 2007 with one minor non-conformance.• Improve coating process to enable the shift scheme to be changed from seven day 24 hour scheme to five day 24 hour with cost savings of 10,000 per month.

Originally a spin off to the Chemistry Department of the University of Liverpool, StylaCats provided contract research and development services involving synthesis, catalysis and innovative technologies in addition to manufacturing scale up and pilot plant production runs. Employing circa 30, the company has grown to service a diverse range of customers including Astra Zeneca & Pfeizer from a single site in Cheshire.Reporting to the Operations Director with primary responsibility for ensuring the smooth running of the operation, maintaining quality standards and accreditation and facilitating scale up to pilot plant level.Duties and responsibilities included:• Scale up of laboratory key organic intermediates from grams to kilo scale up (maximum volume of 20 litres).• Facility management, particularly within high pressure bays.• Sourcing and utilizing external pilot plant facilities.• Sample analysis.• Quality assurance practices and procedures; define, direct and develop.• Quality system maintenance and improvement. • Obtain ISO 9001:2000. Accreditation.• HAZOP studies as required.• Ensure IPPC and Waste legislation compliance through liaison with Environment Agency and Waste Authorities.• Negotiated new and existing service and supplier contracts to effect cost savings.• Purchase & installation of new equipment including NMR and High pressure autoclaves. • Preventative maintenance on instrumentation.Significant achievements included:Successfully project managed the relocation of the business to a single site offering both R&D and commercial production facilities during 2004. Over a period of 6 months, this involved liaison with the property owners, company, and contractors to ensure the 1/2 million refurbishment was completed on time.

The Manchester site used to comprise the Group Head Office and a Production Plant manufacturing fine chemicals and pharmaceutical intermediates for a diverse range of customers including major healthcare and pharmaceutical manufacturers and brands.Reporting to the Technical Manager with primary responsibility for a team of 4 Process Development Chemists charged with identifying production problems, developing solutions and improving overall production efficiency.Duties & responsibilities included:• Improving process productivity through increased output, cycle time and waste reduction.• Management of pilot plant including eight operators up to Production hand over.• Process development, costing and operation. • Plant design and operation including full HAZOP study and process risk assessment.• Risk, Hazard and COSHH assessments.• New product scale up from the lab to full production plant validation scale; max 5000 litres. • Training production staff in new manufacturing processes.• Liaising with quality, engineering, production & supply chain staff to ensure production requirements were met. • Synthesis of pharmaceutical and material samples (g or kg) for toxicity, validation, and clinical trials. • Compiling drug master files.• Quality analysis including: HPLC, GC, GC MS, IR, UV, KF, TLC Auto Titrator, Turbidity and Colour. analysis, viscosity, Flash point and traditional wet method analysis.• Customer technical support.• Supplier liaison.• Producing and maintaining batch manufacturing records.• Production planning on a daily, weekly and monthly time scale.• Obtain IPPC authorisation and environmental within the Environment Agency guidelines.
