As Director, I provide leadership to all voting members of the STAR Board, who –working together, manage and oversee the operation of the STAR Complex, an off campus property of St Luke United Methodist Church. As a volunteer within my community I support the STAR Complex by providing leadership and direction to 27 active Board members, presiding over STAR Board meetings, monitoring financial planning and financial reports, and preparing and presenting annual updates the ST Luke United Methodist Church Board of Trustees on the development, use and operation of the STAR Complex. The STAR Complex is a self-sustaining community resource owned by ST Luke United Methodist Church and managed by associated volunteers such as parishioners, and members of Boy Scout Troop 415 and Venturing Crew 415. The STAR Complex consists of a meeting facility and 7.5 acres of wooded land used for camping and similar outdoor activities.

Being a Boy Scouts of America volunteer leader within my community is more than just sacrificing my personal time. It is about supporting my community and using my talents, skills, and service to better my community through service. Troop 415 has always been heralded by its youth as being a part of a "family". As Troop 415's Committee Chair for over four years now I have sat on many advancement Boards of Review and have listened to Scouts, young and old, talk about their excitement and great experiences within our Troop and how Scouting has impacted and changed their lives for the better. Even more remarkable and rewarding to me personally, is to hear and see our Scouts grow as leaders, to watch them plan and execute trips and activities on their own, to watch them grow into young men with skills and abilities that our Scouting program has enabled them to do through mentoring and caring. It is the atmosphere of comradery and friendship within our Troop that attracts our youth; it’s an atmosphere that is created by our leaders, who, like myself, believe Troop 415 to be our second family. That’s what being a Boy Scout volunteer in my community is about. I am proud of our Scouts and Scouting program and I am most thankful to my son Bryce, who introduced me to the Boy Scouts of America in 2012 and who also volunteers his time to help build and better our community. It is a positive life experience that has bettered both of our lives and something I will cherish forever.
