Development Manager responsible for the client strategy and engagement of our Water Consultancy Division. This includes a team of around 600 water and environment specialists working in the UK and internationally for a range of clients including water utilities, the Environment Agency, contractors and government.

Key Account Leader responsible for the overall direction and delivery of Mott MacDonald’s business with Thames Water. Responsible for the overall technical and financial performance of the Account including strategy and business development. This included a portfolio of over 50 projects. Also actively involved in the management and direction of a number of these projects within the Account.

Project Manager and Deputy Team Leader for this World Bank project to produce Hydropower & Dams Sector Climate Resilience Guidelines for Climate Change and Climate-Induced Natural Disaster Resilience. The purpose of this project is to work with a range of stakeholders to produce practical guidelines for project planners and designers to take account of climate change in existing and planned hydropower projects.

Project Manager for the technical delivery of a US $6 million consultancy commission from USAID. The project involved a comprehensive technical, cost and risk review of the proposed Diamer Bhasha Dam Project, a US $ 14 billion project currently in the early stages of development on the Indus River in Pakistan. As Technical Lead, oversaw a team of over 20 specialists including independent experts to review the existing design and provide recommendations for improvements to the existing scheme. The 4,500 MW hydropower project includes a 272m high dam which will be the largest Roller-Compacted Concrete (RCC) dam in the world.

Shuakhevi Hydropower Project, GeorgiaProject Coordinator for the detailed design of the 175 MW Shuakhevi Hydropower Project on the Adjaristsqali River in south-west Georgia. The ~US$ 300 million scheme includes 30 km of tunnels, two powerhouses, a 5m weir, 20m high hardfill dam and a 44m high concrete dam. The role included liaison with the team internally as well as with the client.Subsequently based in Georgia for 1 year as Assistant Resident Engineer for the site supervision of the Shuakhevi HPP, working as part of the team responsible for overseeing the construction of two dams and a weir. Mott MacDonald is the Owner’s Engineer and responsible for administering the Civil Works Contract and Electro-Mechanical Contract using modified versions of the FIDIC Red Book and Yellow Book respectively. The project is privately funded by Adjaristsqali Georgia LLC.On return to the UK responsible for the detailed design of a tunnel outlet structure and an additional weir and water transfer system. Also undertook slope stability analysis for the rockfill dam following changes to the dam configuration.

Sindh Water Sector Improvement Project (Sindh WSIP), PakistanCoordinating and site engineer role based in Pakistan’s Sindh Province for approximately 7 months. The project is a US $150 million canal rehabilitation project funded by the World Bank and the local Sindh Government comprising dredging works, canal remodelling and hydraulic structures. Role included liaison between design, construction supervision, environmental and social teams and supervision of site activities. Also part of a small team undertaking the bid evaluation for the second major contract to be awarded with a value of circa US $27 million.Subsequently spent over a year as Assistant Project Manager offering head office support, managing issues coming from the project in Pakistan, assisting in the strategic planning of future contracts and overseeing the administration and project management in Cambridge.

Experience of ground engineering associated with a broad range of projects across the water, power and building sectors. Duties included carrying out all geotechnical aspects of projects, from desk studies, ground investigation specifications and procurement, technical oversight of ground investigations and interpretation and design based on these findings. Worked closely with the contaminated land team to provide an integrated service for a wide range of projects. Particular projects of note include Barrow Hill Resevoir in London (Thames Water), the Covenham to Boston Pipeline Transfer (Anglian Water, Special Projects), cb1 residential and office development in Cambridge (Brookgate cb1 Ltd) and the Knight and Bessborough Reservoir Pipeline (MG JV for Thames Water).

Summer placement spent in the Building and Infrastructures Division in Glasgow, primarily working between the Structural and Water teams. Significant work carried out on SuDS design for North Lanarkshire Schools and assisting with structural surveys.

Site engineer based on the construction of a new Primary School at Wester Cowden, Dalkeith, near Edinburgh. Duties included setting out and taking levels, managing small groups of labourers and carrying out health and safety functions as a management representative on site.
