Started work as COBOL developer mostly working on Y2K projects before moving on to a role at Nortel Networks helping to maintain their shop floor product testing platform. I then moved onto a new role at NorthBrook Technology where I started off supporting a COBOL application before taking advantage of a C# reskilling opportunity. This led to a new position as the sole analyst/designer/developer of a new C# web application to automate the labour intensive manual handling of SQL requests for implementation on Oracle databases. This was a great opportunity to take a project right through from initial analysis to successful implementation. The next stage of my career saw me working to support the Claims area move away from Waterfall development to a more Agile approach. This involved learning how to use Octopus, Jenkins and later on Powershell. I quickly worked my way up from a junior role to my current position as lead DevSecOps engineer for the Claims systems in Allstate Northern Ireland and working closely with my counterparts in the US and India. I've taken a lead role in the automation of backend processes in support of the Claims systems and development teams as well as working on the implementation of security enhancements to our DevOps pipelines. This work has helped to ensure that the Claims applications are secure, that automated builds and deployments run smoothly and that we maintain extremely high system availability.
