Appointed as Non-Exec Director (Rail) on interim basis for SERCO, which involved chairing Merseyrail and Caledonian Sleeper Boards. Two very well regarded and interesting businesses. Then moved to MD (Exec) Caledonian Sleepers in May 17, retaining Non-Exec Merseyrail moving from Chair to Non-Exec (shareholder rotation) in Jan 18 then stepping down at the end of Mar 18.

Council member of the Watt Club, the 88,000 strong Alumni body of Heriot-Watt University. Appointed after election to Court of Heriot-Watt, then elected as President, then as immediate past President.

Programme Director for Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR), the UK's largest franchise. (c1.3bn/annum revenue)Responsible for the integration of the £6.5bn Thameslink Project into the franchise, with major infrastructure works, and a major new train fleet.Helped deliver into service first of two £150m state of the art maintenance depots, and get the first fourteen of Europe’s biggest ever train fleet (115 new trains, £1.5bn) into testing programme. Developed key partnerships with Network Rail, Siemens, and the Department of Transport. Took over team from previous franchisee and successfully developed. Sat on GTR Executive Committee and on Alliance Board with Network Rail, helping to implement one of UK railways biggest change programmes, in a very complex environment, with two major staggered acquisitions.

Full profit and loss accountability of divisional business, which peaked at £66m and staff of 600. Served on the Executive Committee of Scott Wilson Ltd (a £320m T/O, 6200 staff plc) until it was acquired by the URS Corporation of USA in September 2010.Doubled business organically in three years; devised strategy to develop a Metro design capability, including identifying, executing and integrating two acquisitions which culminated in winning the biggest single share of London Crossrail design (c£70m Fees); also won and delivered major projects such as East London Line Extension (c£40m Fees) Airdrie to Bathgate Re-opening (c£25m Fees), with Crossrail three of the biggest projects in Britain. Each had several hundred staff across multiple disciplines, companies and offices all benefiting from strong Project Governance and focus on partnering/teamwork; restructured board and business through significant UK downturn. Developed and successfully implemented entry strategy into the Australian market, reaching 75 staff in five years.
