This role involved working as part of team developing new power projects within the UK, providing consultancy for external customers to optimise plant performance and operational strategy and also monitor and improve the performance of px’s existing sites. Typical job roles include:•Analysis of thermodynamic cycles of various power plant including CHP, CCGT, biomass and reciprocating engines.•Optimising asset profits by developing thermodynamic models coupled with market prices and government incentives (RHIs, ROCs LECs etc) to determine return on investment. •Assisting in the negotiation of bilateral heat and power agreements.•Mechanical lead for the group in delivering Concept and FEED level studies.•Undertaking mechanical due-diligence on existing plant and new plant designs.
Fellside Chp
As the lead Mechanical Engineer, I was entirely responsible for the mechanical engineering team at Fellside CHP, a 140MW CCGT that provided steam to the adjacent Sellafield Nuclear Reprocessing Plant. I had responsibility to develop and implement the strategy for all aspects of mechanical maintenance, including the LTSA for the gas turbines, to comply with budget and statutory constraints whilst achieving efficiency and availability targets. As well as running the mechanical engineering department at the station, I was also tasked with thermal performance monitoring and improvements.
Teesside Power Station
The Assistant Mechanical Engineer at Teesside Power Station role was to ensure high station availability by implementation of modern maintenance practices and resolution of engineering defects. Teesside Power Station is 1875 MW CCGT station consisting of eight Mitsubishi heavy frame M701D5A, one GE LM6000 black start unit and two Westinghouse condensing steam turbines. As part of this role I was heavily involved with the development of Risk Based Inspections (RBI), statistical process control and root cause analysis of faults. Examples of this included:•HRSGs - Solving key technical weakness in the HRSGs •PSSR - Updating and reviewing the written scheme with Royal Sun Alliance including the move to RBI•Steam Systems - Technical review to remove a start-up steam header from full time service to reduce the risk of a GT NOx excursion. •I also provided technical consultancy to Fellside CHP to improve its thermal performance and develop and refine the software tools and models required by the site.
