Building on the technical data foundations that I created during my years in accounting/finance, I became responsible for creating a new reporting and analytics discipline within the CuraScript Specialty Distribution business line. Initially leveraging the Teradata data warehouse created to allow for the daily reporting of business margin, over 1,000+ Business Objects reports were created over a seven year period with a FTE headcount ranging between 1 and 4. It was also early in this timeframe that I began developing data visualizations in Xcelsius; first for internal users in sales and operations to monitor business activity in real-time, and then ultimately extending those capabilities to external pharmaceutical manufacturer customers via the Galileo Business Intelligence customer portal.- From concept through content deployment, developed the Galileo Business Intelligence customer portal through two generations of underlying data visualization technologies (Xcelsuis to Tableau)- Developed modeled data layer ETL requirements for additional two generations of Teradata data warehouse (normalization of DB2 source)- Developed POC and final requirements documentation for Suspicious Order Monitoring system algorithm, reporting, and monitoring (DEA licensure requirement for the distribution of C2-C5 narcotics and controlled substance pharmaceuticals)- Developed data structure, user interface, and reporting requirements for pharmaceutical distribution programs requiring REMS (Risk Evaluation & Mitigation Strategy) data collection and validation at the time of orderSelect financial accomplishments:- $4.5M annual revenue – business turn-around, contract renegotiation, and pricing model for 3PL business

It is possible to be good at something about which one has no passion. Greatness, however, is an unlikely outcome in those circumstances. I was a good accountant.- Developed requirements and implemented first generation Teradata data warehouse and Informatica ETL for CuraScript Specialty Distribution which allowed for daily margin calculation and tracking; previously, monthly administrative fee margin, which represents 50% of the total margin earned, was not able to be calculated accurately outside of month end close.- Developed calculations, database architecture, and technical requirements for Information Technology project to calculate and display order margin in real-time in order entry system which allowed for identification and correction of pricing errors prior to order processing.- Created the first generation Business Objects data universe and introduced self-service reporting across the entire CuraScript organization.Selected financial accomplishments:- $1.3M one time margin addition – identified system data errors which had resulted in incorrect inventory cost recognition- $1.8M one time margin addition – identified system data errors which had resulted in missed manufacturer chargeback billings

Responsible for the reporting and consolidation of 15 domestic and international entities under common ownership, I designed and implemented the necessary accounting system corporate structures using the Lawson ERP software which included modules for asset management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory control, billing, cash management, and the general ledger. Financial statement reporting included preparation pursuant to FAS 52, Foreign Currency Translation, as well as SEC reporting of 10Q and 10K for publicly traded entities. In addition, I began experimenting with Crystal Reports to view telecommunications traffic in real-time across our networks.

As a staff accountant, I quickly became responsible for the preparation of full scope audited financial statement preparation of businesses with revenues in excess of $75M that spanned multiple industries including telecommunications, grocery, public utilities, distribution, and manufacturing. By all accounts, this was a very standard entry level position for an accountant recently graduated from college. Still, I was surprised by some of the extremely antiquated processes still being utilized by this multi-million dollar accounting firm. One of the staff accountant responsibilities was the preparation of audit workpaper files prior to each engagement which typically involved about 8 hours of photocopying, hole punching, stapling, more hole punching, and numbering of file sections. Those 8 hours were always written off as non-billable each engagement which, in public accounting, billable hours are a critical measurement of one’s utility…I wrote a VBA program in MS Access that cut the preparation time down to 15 (billable) minutes.
