Designed and implemented a Patent Analysis System (PAS) that enables the company to offer services such as Third Party Preissuance Submissions (which target recently published patent applications in order to neutralize/kill them) and Portfolio Optimization (which ranks the assets in a corporate patent portfolio and recommends whether to maintain or abandon them). At its core, PAS is a search engine which operates across the entire dataset of US patent applications and grants, providing configurable claim and document scoring to enable a variety of service offerings including those listed above. In addition, PAS supports end to end business process monitoring along with customer dashboards and report generation. The system is implemented in Java using the latest Spring frameworks (Boot, Data, Batch), along with a Hibernate Search (Lucene) fronted PostgreSQL database, all running in a hosted environment as a Centos 7 system service. Additional responsibilities include traditional IT tasks such as purchasing, installation and support of PCs, Linux servers, software, and networking equipment.

Leading a team of three architects in the development of base and management software for a new java-based audio/video/web conferencing product. Development has included replacement of the Oracle EE database with a combination of PostgreSQL and SymmetricDS (replication), introduction of a KPI framework for capture, storage and graphing of performance metrics, automation of disaster recovery with the addition of geographic redundancy, and migration from the Oracle 32-bit 1.6 JRE to the 64-bit 1.6 JRE in order to increase capacity. Additional responsibilities include JRE performance tuning and application profiling to find and correct excessive garbage allocation and memory leaks.

Leading a team of 3 architects and 40 designers in the OOA&D and implementation of the base and management software for the A2E line of SIP-based VoIP products. The Java implementation (700 packages, 6300 classes and 600K LOC) utilizes JSE core packages, JEE extension packages (JSP, Servlet, JAX-RPC) and third party software (Axis, Tomcat) to support 8 different components (3M+ LOC). Insured ease of integration with existing networks by providing both legacy and emerging management interfaces (SOAP, IPDR, SNMP, CSV). Enabled multi-O/S (Solaris, Linux, Windows), multi-server (Sun, HP, IBM) support through the use of Java and Perl. Designed the ClearCase/UCM version control architecture to support multiple products and parallel streams. Assisted PLM by developing and delivering customer presentations. Worked with vendors (Sun, IBM, Red Hat, Oracle) to integrate their components into the product. Primed all JRE engineering including the tuning of parallel, concurrent garbage collection.

In the role of CTO in a startup modeled organization (hours, focus, options, etc), led a team of ten architects, ninety designers and fifteen testers in the OOA&D and implementation of the 2001 Frost & Sullivan Engineering Leadership award winning carrier grade softswitch supporting both legacy (ISUP, PRI) and next generation (H.323, SIP, SIP-T, MGCP) protocols. The resulting Java implementation consisted of over 1300 packages, 12,000 classes, and two million LOC. Designed and implemented the Java state machine framework that served as the basis for all call processing components. Assisted sales team by developing and delivering customer presentations (architecture, road-map, etc.) and product demonstrations. Negotiated contracts with third party vendors (Sun, Oracle). Overcame Java technical hurdles (behavior and performance), by working with Sun JVM engineers on the introduction and tuning of concurrent garbage collection.

Led a team of four architects and five designers in the object-oriented analysis, design and implementation of a carrier grade H.323 Gatekeeper. The design and implementation (Java) included a state machine framework, event broker, priority based event scheduler, name server and a messaging system.
