I grew up on a cattle ranch, where I learned the value of a hard day’s work. I’ve retained that work ethic, but it was the chance to collaborate with people, along with my naturally competitive nature, that drew me to financial services.Here I discovered a passion for building businesses from scratch. Creating the processes, programs and vision—the architecture of a successful company—has become my calling card.Athene tapped me to do just that, and as their senior vice president and division sales manager for financial institutions, I’ve been the architect, the contractor and the person who lives in the home.Building the business up let me take advantage of the experience and expertise I’d accumulated over the years. But our unmatched success doesn’t happen without a team. Success comes from:• process: if an efficient and innovative process isn’t in place, time is wasted and the potential for success is squandered• process management: a process is only as good as its implementation, so I keep in close touch with the team• team development: when members of my team win, so do the company and the customerAll those passions—work ethic, competition, process and team—spill into my off hours, too. Although I no longer work with cattle, I do still love horses. I spend as much free time as possible in equestrian pursuits, including showing quarter horses. Churchill was right when he said there was nothing better for the inside of a man than the outside of a horse.
