Connecting high quality climate science research with practical applications.At NOAA's Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (GFDL), my research has focused on using state-of-the-art computer models to gain a better understanding of the factors that influence our planet’s weather and climate over time-scales of seasons to centuries. As team lead for GFDL's Empirical Statistical Downscaling Team and deputy division head of the GFDL Marine Ecosystems & Downscaling Division, I am actively involved in efforts to enhance the transfer and translation of high quality, scientifically credible information as it flows from the realm of large-scale physical weather and climate research to that of local-scale impacts and planning applications. This includes research regarding the performance of statistical downscaling techniques and participation in outreach activities, delivering presentations and creating content to communicate about our scientific research and "lessons learned" to a wide variety of audiences, to support better-informed decision making.
