As a volunteer, I make a difference in the life of someone in my community. As an adult literacy tutor., I support a teacher-led classroom, teaching reading, writing, spelling, basic math and digital skills to adults who read below an 8th grade equivalency.

Our saucy journey began in 1997 as a gardening project. Malcolm started growing chili peppers in pots on his porch, then experimenting with recipes for hot sauces. In response to the overwhelmingly positive feedback, we have selected two of the most popular flavors to bring to the hot-sauce loving public! Ours is a family-owned and operated business. Malcolm is the Chief Sauce Guy, in charge of sauce production and bottling. I assist in sauce production and create all the marketing pieces (website, brochures, etc). My folks assist with sales and operations, while the other members of our family help spread the word and get our sauce into people's hands. Managed an early childhood program in Washington, DC with a $2 million budget. Duties included: the implemention of recruitment, retention, and supervision plans for professional and support staff for six departments, the coordination of local marketing of the program within the community, the implementation of quality control measures to bring program up to national criteria, the creation of new aspects of the program to meet the changing needs of staff and clients, the management of public and private grants and contracts that supported service delivery, assistance in grant development to support operating budget, participation in community development initiatives for quality service delivery in the District of Columbia.

Served as a consultant for the Easter Seal Society of the Metropolitan Washington, DC area. Responsibilities included: evaluating the levels of curriculum and program delivery in agency sponsored early childhood settings, the creation of action plans for program managers and staff on effective and efficient methods of improving program delivery, supporting the local sales and marketing efforts of the program within the community, assisting in the development and implementation tasks and timeline for start-up of new, federally contracted program, designing and implementing professional development seminars and activities at the state, local, and agency level
