Working as an intern at the Georgia Heart Institute, Kelly acquired hands-on experience in the field of cardiology. Duties included performing medical tests (such as EKG's and INR withdrawals), communicating with/educating patients on cardiovascular conditions and medications, and shadowing medical personnel (physicians, imaging technicians and medical assistant's).

As a journalism student, Kelly participated in a program in which high school students wrote articles for the Forsyth County Newspaper. Several of her stories were published, with topics ranging from housing and developments to the controversy surrounding wearing masks during the Covid-19 pandemic.
