Profile bio

About Kelly Rutkowski

I have over 5 years of emergency preparedness and response experience at the local, national, and international level. During my time with the US Coast Guard, I spent 4 years as a search and rescue team leader at the coldest maritime search and rescue unit in the United States. During the winter season, I was an instructor in cold water survival skills at the National Ice Rescue School. My operational experience has provided me with valuable skills in leadership, teamwork, communication, and decision-making in a high-pressure and dynamic environment. I wished to explore other opportunities and travel which led me to transition into higher education. I completed a BA in Environment and Sustainability, a Geographic Information System certificate, and an MSc in Disasters, Adaptation, and Development. During and after the completion of my education, I travelled through 50+ countries. My work as a search and rescue team leader taught me the value of being able to help people in their time of need while my travels have inspired me to pursue a career with global opportunities. I hold dual British and American citizenship and I am open to relocating for the right opportunity. I hope to use my skills to transition into the emergency and disaster preparedness and response sector.
