Z-machine. Pulsed Power TechnologiesConducted laser experiments to optimize the absolute x-ray conversion efficiency at 8.9 keV of a zinc foil irradiated at Z-beamlet.

Accelerator Department, Sector 0Experimentally determined the optimal Q-switching conditions for SLAC's polarized Ti:Sapphire laser system. Improved the output power of the laser from 0.4 mJ to over 3 mJ with excellent jitter stabilization for pulse shaping and intensity variation of less than 0.5%.

Molecular Physics LabPerformed a pump-probe analysis of excited hydroxyl radicals using YAG and Excimer-pumped dye lasers. Numerous experiments were performed to measure the relaxation constant of the hydroxyl radical with other gases under conditions found in the Earth's mesosphere. The results were combined with data collected by NASA's TIMED satellite to analyze molecular reactions in the Earth's upper atmosphere
