My passion is to support people to become who they are meant to be. Early messages direct our ways of being and dynamics with others; sometimes these can hold us back. I believe that everyone is unique and has the potential to develop self compassion to anchor them and courage to drive them. Often this begins with learning how to be who we are in the present moment, even if that means feeling anxious about what we need to do and feeling afraid that our goals are unreachable. Developing a trusting relationship in which to share and explore this, means that clients do not have to be alone in the dark and can shift in small and big ways; in ways they never imagined. Inner kindness is like a muscle which needs constant exercise and the more self awareness, the better we can return to, or develop what is nourishing and supportive within us. I have worked for 18 years in health and social care, with older people and then with people with mental health needs. Most of my previous work has been with people who have diagnosable/diagnosed mental health conditions, to supporting family members of people who struggle with their mental health. This includes depression, anxiety, complex needs or psychosis. I have often worked together with family units on roles, dynamics and communication. I am also trained to deliver courses in mental health to family members and other professionals.I am often moved by people’s personal stories and how mental health has featured within cultures and generations, from what is unsaid, to ways of coping and what we now know and recognise as stigma surrounding mental health. I often find that recovery is about supporting people to belong and have meaningful connections with others, to discover who they are now and identify their strengths, both to build on and to find.
