As a Winter Naturalist I run programs for people of all ages and write lesson plans for each program. I also help to run the our nature center in Avon, Colorado and on top of Vail Mountain. I help to keep inventory of all of the flora and fauna around the nature center by keeping track of our wildlife cameras and making observations on iNaturalist.

I collaborate with colleagues to plan and implement a seven week natural resource internship for seven high school students, teaching lessons about botany, fire ecology, forestry, and hydrology. In this position I also partner with the USFS and work on their fish and wildlife crew at the Holy Cross Ranger Station in Eagle County, Colorado. I have helped with fish, toad, macro invertebrate, and stream sampling.

I am a student instructional assistant (otherwise known as an undergraduate teaching assistant) for an introductory environmental science course at Ohio State University. Each semester, I am assigned roughly 50 students and I grade their papers through out the semester, giving them thorough feedback on each assignment. I also host office hours through out the week to answer student questions and to respond to student emails regarding the class.

I work in Gardiner Lab in the Department of Entomology at Ohio State University. I currently work under a graduate student that is studying lady beetles. During my time in the lab I identify lady beetles and other insects that are caught on sticky traps in the field, pin insects, organize specimen, and help with miscellaneous lab tasks. I have also assisted with other various projects like data entry, pollinator projects, and sorting pitfalls. I am working with a graduate student to process data in the program R and to make maps in ArcGIS. During summer 2018, I traveled to Cleveland with the graduate students each week as a field technician for the lab and I assisted in putting out sticky traps and pitfalls. I also collected live specimen and aided in site maintenance when needed. At the end of the summer I had the opportunity to lead my own team of undergraduate students in the field.

During this internship I became a certified naturalist and had the opportunity to create my own programs for the general public. My programs generally consisted of nature walks and volunteer programs. The volunteer program that I organized allowed me to collaborate with my supervisors to plan and implement restoration projects that needed to be completed around the nature center. I also had several opportunities to work on private programs as well, during this time I had the opportunity to be more creative with my programs. When I was not leading programs, I was program planning, educating myself on the local ecology, or working in the nature center interacting with guests.

Through this position I provided care for 38 horses located in three different barns and prepared the horses for lessons. On a typical night, I would be preparing horses for about 30 students. During the summer I would work summer camps for 20 students teaching them how to ride and maintain a barn. I would also work horse shows by preparing the horses, setting up the arena, and helping young riders prepare for their classes. When needed, I would provide first aide and medications for horses.
