ECHO is an acronym for Empowering Communities through Her Opportunities. ECHO Collective's flagship program, The Refinery, was created from first-hand experience with women who have the drive, skill, and passion to run businesses well, but were lacking in the formal business education to create sustainable success. The Refinery provides refugee and immigrant women the opportunity to achieve economic independence and social capital through business education and professional mentorships. We use a community-driven curriculum that creates lasting connections with English Language Learner-friendly content. ECHO Collective has developed into a nonprofit that economically and creatively empowers refugee and immigrant women. As the Citizenship Program Manager and Instructor with El Centro de las Américas, I provided my students with the necessary knowledge and confidence to successfully pass the U.S. Naturalization exam and become informed and active citizens. I was also responsible for creating numerous activities and exercises at varying levels to cater to student's differences in English-speaking ability.
