Acute Inpatient Psychiatry--Adult Schizophrenia and General Psychology Unit (Meyer 5)Highlights of Clinical Skills: • Responded to a patient’s report of experienced violence from another patient. Actively listened to patient’s story, concern, and fear for her safety. Once the conversation was finished, I had another student nurse sit with the patient while I went to report the incident to my clinical instructor, charge nurse, and nurse of the other patient.• Established rapport with a guarded and secluded patient and identified patient’s delusions and fears that were not previously reported. • Administered PO, IVP medication, and long-acting IM antipsychotic medication.

• Organized walk, booth activities and decorations promoting suicide awareness (i.e. created memorial wall, poster making station, and inspirational messages).

Title: The Hero’s Journey and Soul Retrieval TherapyThis project explored the therapeutic benefits of Neo-Shamanism practices derived from paradigms and theories developed in comparative religion. I begin by investigating Joseph Campbell’s archetype of the hero’s journey and examine how Sandra Ingerman’s “Soul Retrieval Therapy” integrates Campbell’s insights into practice. Understanding connections among religion, myth, and psychology could contribute to the health and wellbeing of humankind and allow more clinicians to incorporate similar models into their own practice. The project also included a reflection on a first-person exploration of Soul Retrieval Therapy.

Title: The Effect of Animal-Assisted Activities on Physiological and Psychological Reactivity to StressDesigned and conducted a study investigating whether animal-assisted activities (AAA) helped reduce the physiological and psychological reactivity of stress in individuals, particularly for individuals who displayed higher levels of anxiety and depression.
