Documented and created a report of the proceedings from a WWF-Pacific and Fiji FFIA webinar, Tuna Traceability and Technology in the Western and Central Pacific Ocean, with Thalassa Consulting Pty Ltd. The webinar was attended by a variety of stakeholders from fishing and seafood industries, seafood sustainability certifiers, government and NGOs to explore practical and achievable seafood traceability initiatives in the Pacific region, “from hook to plate”.

Documented and reported outcomes from the 2020 Tasmanian Scallop Fishery Advisory Committee (ScFAC) meeting, with Thalassa Consulting Pty Ltd. The ScFAC was attended by a variety of stakeholders from fishing and seafood industries, government, NGOs and research institutions to share updates surrounding catch and effort, research, conservation and projections for the 2020 fishing season. Documented and created reports for the 2018 and 2019 Centrostephanus Forums, with Thalassa Consulting Pty Ltd. The Forums were attended by a variety of stakeholders from fishing and seafood industries, government, NGOs and research institutions to share knowledge around the spread of the invasive long spined sea urchin, Centrostephanus rodgersii, and identify solutions.

Collaborated with World Animal Protection's Global Ghost Gear Initiative (GGGI) and Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation to facilitate the creation of a publicly accessible, global database for abandoned, lost or otherwise discarded fishing gear: https://globalghostgearportal.net

Compiled the final draft of the Cook Islands State of Environment Report including research, data analysis, writing and editing with the Environmental Monitoring and Governance Division.

Assisted in the development of SPREP as the regional hub for the United Nations Environment Programme’s Global Partnership for Marine Litter:  Researched and wrote the report Marine pollution originating from purse seine and longline fishing vessel operations in the Western and Central Pacific Ocean, 2003 – 2015. Report inspired the creation of the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission’s Conservation Management Measure on Marine Pollution (CMM 2017-04).  Undertook marine debris field research in Papua New Guinea (PNG), including three weeks of marine sampling onboard a prawn trawler in the Gulf of Papua;  Contributed to the development of a marine debris focal area for the Waste Management and Pollution Control Division’s 2016-2025 Regional Strategy;  Developed a marine debris focal area under the Two Samoas initiative;  Organized region-wide participation for Ocean Conservancy International Coastal Cleanup;  Publicly presented on regional marine debris issues in Fiji, Samoa and Solomon Islands;  Initiated, planned and implemented the Honiara litter boom marine debris project.

Researched climate change impacts, mitigation, adaptation, loss and damage in Pacific island countries, with a focus on “Blue Justice” for Dr Michael McGinnis. Research contributed to and was acknowledged in the book Science and Sensibility: Negotiating an Ecology of Place.

Campus liaison for the Monterey Area Research Institutions’ Network for Education (MARINE):  Collaborated with the seven MARINE campuses: Stanford University, Hopkins Marine Station, UC Santa Cruz, Monterey Institute of International Studies, CSU Monterey Bay, Moss Landing Marine Laboratories and Naval Postgraduate School;  Coordinated professional development, research collaboration and networking events; and Assisted with conferences, seminars and workshops connecting marine science and policy.

Assisted UNEP’s Global Programme of Action for the Protection of the Marine Environment from Land-based Activities (GPA) to reduce sources of and impacts from marine litter:• Prepared project concept notes;• Wrote case studies for and reviewed two UNEP reports*;• Contributed to the Global Partnership on Marine Litter (GPML)’s 2014-16 program of work;• Participated in the inaugural United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA);• Researched a variety of marine litter issues;• Compiled a list of marine litter ‘champions’ to help raise awareness of the issue; and• Facilitated the launch of the global Marine Litter Network website.*Reports included: Valuing Plastic: The Business Case for Measuring, Managing and Disclosing Plastic Use in the Consumer Goods Industry’; ‘Plastic in Cosmetics’ (UNEP, 2015)

The nonprofit 1:1 Movement works toward a more environmentally sustainable San Diego:• Promoted “The Last Straw” campaign to reduce the use of single-use, disposable straws;• Fundraised and planned an annual art show: local artists repurpose plastic trash into art;• Assisted with environmental education programs in K-12 schools; and• Contributed research used by 1:1 consultants for minimal and zero waste city events.

WorldArc was a circumnavigation sailing rally hosted by the World Cruising Club:• Sailed from Florida, USA across the Pacific Ocean to Australia;• Maintained active watch schedule during passage making;• Navigated and planned routes between island groups with weather considerations; and • Assisted with immigration formalities between countries.

Enrolled energy utility customers in efficiency programs for PRS, a survey and consulting firm:• Communicated with a diversity of utility customers and businesses nationwide and• Conducted a variety of surveys and interviews; entered data from survey results.

Generated political support for solutions to marine plastic pollution and Green Chemistry:• Lobbied for nonprofit CWA’s campaigns through door-to-door education and fundraising;• Recruited community members to advance the campaign goals; and• Trained and organized crew leaders and field managers.

Sailed to and around the North Pacific Gyre to document marine plastic pollution*:• Maintained active watch schedule throughout voyage;• Educated the crew and community members about marine plastic pollution; and• Assisted with regular boat maintenance projects.*trip featured in the book: 'Visit Sunny Chernobyl: And Other Adventures in the World’s Most Polluted Places'

Trained and cared for the U.S. Navy’s dolphins and sea lions through husbandry and research:• Assisted with medical procedures, physicals, environmental enrichment, and training;• Conducted research: echolocation acquisition, mother/calf, respiration rates and dives; and• Prepared daily diets and cleaned animal pens.

Communicated with visitors about the refuge’s work in conservation, restoration, and education:• Organized, trained and supervised refuge volunteers; maintained volunteer database;• Designed and edited the volunteer newsletter; marketed events; updated trail maps; • Led bird walks, interpretive hikes and educational programs; and• Assisted field biology projects e.g. surveys/counts for disease profiles and mercury content.
