Sys Admin, Net Admin, Dba
I wore many hats. Windows network admin, Mail Admin, jenkin-ci & TeamCity Admin, Confluence and Jira admin, Net admin for DNS, Firewall, Load balancers, Cloud expert, DBA/MySQL expert. I selected technology, built all components of our server systems (from source), integrated, configured, administered, documented, monitored, and charted performance. I explored and adopted new technology; For example I moved GH from spunk to logstash/redis/elasticsearch/kibana in an effort to improve visibility into our systems performance, reliability, at a reasonable cost. GameHouse (GH) used Joyent smartOS VMs (based on Open Solaris) to host 191 SmartMachine (SMs) made up of MySQL DBs, MySQL Clusters, memcached, tomcat, Jetty, php, apache, HAProxy/Wackamole/Spread, stingray load balancers, ElasticSearch Clusters, Redis and, SmartFox servers. I've automated a number of the setup/config tasks using bash scripts. I configured Jenkins pipelines to further automate the process of Build and release for back end, Flash and Unity (IOS and Android). I've continued to developed knowledge of gcc/gdb, make/cmake, c/c++, java, JavaScript, ActionScript, bash, sed/awk, perl, Python, php, DTrace, truss, and the misc solaris process utils (pmap, ptree, pfiles, prstat). I can comfortably dig-in to any problems at any level.I have a solid grasp of networks, routing, firewalls, and misc network protocols. I continuously learn. With my experience with MySQL over the last 6 years I can immediately identify potentially bad SQL and table indexing and bad ideas (using mysql as a K/V store or as an ever growing log file). I have a number of solutions for optimizing indexes and managing DB size. I've used percona tools to perform hot-backup and failover. My interests lay in optimization of performance and cost, build/deployment automation, metrics, applying the correct technology for scaling and constant learning.
Director Technical Operations
* select, install, configure, monitor and manage all systems in our Cloud infrastructure. this included: MySQL & MySQL Cluster, HAProxy/wackamole/spread, stingray load balancer, tomat, jetty, php, apache, nginx, memcached, SmartFox, ElasticSearch, Logstash, Redis, Kibana, splunk* DBA: manage health, optimize/tune performance, trouble-shoot/optimize queries, manage backups and performance reports.* select all hardware and software and set and maintain all configurations for all environments systems.* trouble shoot all issues.* research into technologies noSQL.
Dev, Net Admin, Qa Lab Admin And Release Manager
I worked in a number of roles over my 6 years at Abe: I would learn and fix what ever they threw at me.In the early days Abe hosted all servers themselves in a closet in the back of the office called "the bunker". In the beginning my roles were:* software developer* expert admin in Qmail - the mail server used by Abe at the time -- a critical part of the business as it was the means through which the company communicated with book sellers and book buyers.* admin: Cisco Pix501, Alteon, Samba.* systems admin * Windows NT Domain and Workstations, Windows Server and Linux serversThere were a number of department and whole office moves--4 in the time I was there. Our team (myself and one other person) planned and executed the migrations of networks services--Again, at that time Abe was hosing all systems. We managed this with zero down time.In my final role at Abe I worked as * admin for our Conversion cycle: ETL for book seller inventory* the build release manager and* systems support for the QA Department.
Software Developer
Co-op Position: Maintenance Information Systems (MIS).MIS managed the application that managed maintenance of the large dump trucks Syncrude uses in their large open-pit mines. The software package used was called IMPOWER. One issue with IMPOWER was that it lacked the ability to communicate/interface with any other software system. My roles:* performed maintenance of the underlying Oracle DBs: wrote PL/SQL * maintained a large perl script that interacted with the IMPOWER system. My most interesting project:In addition I developed a Visual Basic Application which loaded the IMPOWER client, injected a DLL into the process's memory space so it could intercepted the processes' windows message queue. The app intercepted data and relayed that data to other application via DDE. It was the most interesting and challenging project I worked on at that time.
