While earning my master's degree, I investigated the effects of a novel nanoparticle delivery system for antioxidants in canines, differential gene expression in canine inflammatory brain disease, and microRNA expression in canine hemangiosarcoma. Through these projects I developed skills in PCR, electrophoresis, RT-PCR, and troubleshooting of these processes.

Houston, Texas Area

In this role as the neurology intern I worked closely with veterinary specialists in case management including initial diagnostic work up and developing treatment plans consisting of both surgical and medical management. I communicated directly with pet owners and served as the primary clinician for hospitalized patients outside of business hours. I was trained in approaches for common neurosurgical procedures and awarded primary case responsibility throughout the year.

As a rotating intern, I worked with various veterinary specialists to advance my skills and knowledge as a veterinary clinician. While working within specialties such as surgery, neurology, internal medicine, and critical care, I was responsible for patient examination and treatment as well as client communication. Approximately 25% of the time I worked as an emergency clinician with primary case responsibility from time of presentation to either time of discharge or transfer to specialty services for additional workup.
